You’ve sent your adventurers through the wilderness, into the swamp or into the wild wood. They’ve traveled through the darkness of dungeon or cavern, and managed to find themselves some treasure. Now it’s time for a little magic!

Bits of Magicka is a new series of products from Tabletop Adventures. Each Bits of Magicka title brings you 100 described and detailed magic items from the creative pen of Greg Ragland. First to come is Bits of Magicka: Mystic Writings. Many of these scrolls and tomes are not just your everyday scrolls! Greg’s exceptional imagination has turned what might seem to be fairly predictable items into unexpected pieces of adventure. From a scroll that can be read only in a dream to a huge sheet of brass fastened to the wall of a castle, there are ‘scrolls’ here as you’ve never seen them before.

Each item has a physical description (written for a GM to read aloud if desired), a brief history, and complete 3.5 Edition stats. In addition to the familiar scrolls and books of spells, you will find mystic writings in all shapes and sizes, some hidden or protected in a variety of ways, whose histories provide possible plot hooks or story ideas. In addition, the pieces are each supplied with a value and Encounter Level, to make them easy to fit into treasure hoards. The values run the gamut from 50 to over 100,000 gold pieces, and include Encounter Levels 1-20.

Further titles in this series include Bits of Magicka: Rings and Jewelry and Bits of Magicka: Weapons of Mayhem. Augment your imagination, with products from Tabletop Adventures.

20. The Grig’s Scroll

Appearance
Writing adorns this tiny scroll, about the size of a dwarf’s thumbnail. The diminutive script is almost too fine to read, as if designed to be perused by an extremely small-sized caster.

History
The grig wizard Tok Chrra’ak penned this scroll, and traded it to a family of pixies. Before they could use the scroll, the sprites were killed and eaten by a vicious ogre mage.

Properties
The scroll is 3/4 inch long and 1/2 inch wide. It contains the arcane spell hold monster. Due to its diminutive nature, unless one is Tiny-sized (or smaller), reading it requires a magnifying lens and a full round action.

Scroll: Moderate enchantment; CL 9th; Scribe Scroll, hold monster; Price 1,125 gp. EL 4. Total Value: 1,125 gp.

A gamemaster can (if desired) read aloud the description of the appearance. We have been very careful not to give away too much information here, but to stick strictly to what adventurers would see looking at the item. The History gives background ideas for the piece, which can be used or not at the GM's option. The Properties describe the specifications of the item and what it does, followed by the magic item's 'stat block'. All 100 pieces are written to this degree of detail, and are ordered by Encounter Level (EL), which is also by gold piece value. This makes them easy to use as part of a treasure for an encounter - maybe with a bunch of non-magical items.
